The Great Pumpkin & everything else fall

The days are getting colder the leaves have officially changed and above all the Great Pumpkin was officially on t.v. Yup it's that time of the year.. fall. My favorite and especially here in Portland it is just magical. (picture From last year.. my first REAL fall. I was so in love)

I better soak in all this fall weather while I get the chance, last I heard in was 80 degrees in California. (oh boy!) Until then I will enjoy pumpkin spice lattes, rain boots as a necessity not just for looks, sleeping with a ton of blankets because once again we moved in to an apartment with a difficult heater. Oh well at least we find humor in it all.

California Here We Come....

Husband and I have decided that we are moving back to California. It was not an easy decision but we know that it is the right one. We will soon be packing up our little car with our belonging and starting the trek back. I always thought this was what I wanted but as the time gets closer I feel like I'm really going to miss Portland. I think we have grow so much and learned so much about each other while living here. I would never change it for the world!

Off to our new adventure...

outdoorsy

So I did it!!! I have officially gone on my first real "roughing it" camping trip, and you know what..... I didn't hate it. I actually loved it. I loved the fact that there was no timeline for anything, no clock to watch and absolutely no expectation for the day. All I had on the agenda was spend time with husband and look around at what God has created for us. It was magical!

This was the little creek that ran just a little ways away from our site. We could actually hear it at night while falling asleep. (confession- falling asleep in the woods did scare me a little... a lot.. okay maybe i was petrified but i still loved it)

Our tent

Just across the road in front of us was a meadow. It was so amazing at night husband and I were able to look at the stars from there.

Check out the coolest mushroom growth that we found on a tree during one of our hikes. It looks like a city for tiny fairies or something.

Real men cook in the woods. Husband and I got the best little camping stove that helped us prepare yummy camping food. (confession #2 I bought a light weight french press so I was able to have coffee the whole time we were there, something I absolutely can't function without! Is it still "roughing it" if I can have coffee and the new issue of Glamour at hand?)

And lastly the killer view we got of Mt Hood as we drove out of our camp ground. Good bye for now nature. I miss you already. Is it normal to be this sad to be back indoors? I really think this little trip sparked something in me that I didn't know I was missing. More than anything is the feeling of being so small in this majestic world that the Lord has given us.

Feeling a bit like Enid today

So maybe my best friend and I were compared to these two more than once. Maybe I did have a bob and wear little boy t-shirts with skirts (mine was star wars)in high school. But although the obssesion with childrens clothing is gone and my hair has long since grown out there will always be my love for Ghost World. (and secretly my crush on Steve Buscemi) Plus 1960 Bollywood films can you get any better than that? My heart skips a beat the the white suits. skinny ties and the girl with the big hair and gold dress... I really can't tell you how happy it makes me.

hello there

Big Hair, originally uploaded by cuteandpeculiar.

If it isn't big hair then it's big shoes. I think I like to make up for my small stature. HA

Today I....

*ran the whole way to work because I over slept
*only worked for 4 hours
*had a giant cup of coffee but still was able to fall asleep when I got home
*saw a ladybug walking on the sidewalk
*still made it home in time to cuddle with husband before he went to work
*am so tired and so bored I don't know which side to listen to
*have a huge TO DO list.... but might not get to too much
*am missing my family and friends a lot
*wish that husband could have stayed home with me

Today I know that even when I am feeling so exhausted and a little down there are still reasons to smile.
Thank you husband and ladybug for making me smile today.

I'm sorry it's been so long!!!!

Well I'm finally back!!! The Internet has been down for a while. Well at least the wireless which means no internet on my computer but husband was still able to play WOW all he wanted. Hmm.. does anyone else see a problem with that? HA
Well he has definitely made it up to me. He got me these sunglasses yesterday as 1. an early b day present (it's not until October) and 2. A get out of jail free card for cleaning for the next couple of weeks. I think it was worth it.

I wasn't always a big fan of Juicy but lately I think they have stepped up there game especially in the ad department. They are just so cute and whimsical. Now all i can think about is pink everything and big satin bows in my hair. Oh shoot advertisement does work!!!!>

On another note after a super yummy homemade dinner I made tonight husband went to get us a dessert and came back with lava cake and this!!!! He is oh so sweet. SEE!!!!, how can I complain about no cleaning when he does things like this all the time? Tough one. HA Well I guess I'lll let him slide for no internet for like a month. You'll be seeing me a lot more now.

mad heat and mad men

Dear summer heat

You are ruining my life. I don't have any desire to do anything. It is so hot that every breath feels like my last. It feels like even typing right now is exhausting and over heating me. Can you please go back to being sunny and cool? It would really help me a lot... I'm sure a few other people feel the same way. Please please please.

Sincerely,
maybe I don't love summer anymore
Leslie

Now that I got that out of the way I just found one of the most fun little sites via this cute blog...
It's madmenyourself.com
I made husband and I...cute right?

Also my new obsession is whipup.net .This site is loaded with tons of fun ideas like this one blocks made into picture magnets. I can't wait to try to make them.

Well I'm off to desperately try to stay cool.

Before and after

After a tough few week of feeling exhausted and over worked I finally took a little time to do something I love and give my little kitchen a face lift.

Before

After

I used a high quality craft paper from The Paper Source as a faux wallpaper and painted the hinges to match my kitchen accesories. I bought a few succulents ( fool proof plants) to put on the shelf and there you have it. A cheap little way to make my kitchen a bit more fun. .... Only problem now I want to redecorate EVERTHING.:)

Wow.. Is it a year already????

I can't believe that it has already been one year since husband and I moved to Portland. This time last year we were crammed in our little car with all of our belonging smashed in the back of our car. I wish I had a better picture so you could get the full affect of how we drove, but none the less it was such a fun road trip. With way too many stops for snacks and energy drinks and perhaps MIA on repeat a few too many times. It was so exciting driving to a place I had never even been before and crossing our fingers that the apartment we rented via email and pictures was actually as cute as it seemed and in a good neighborhood. We were pleasantly surprised, :)

Although I miss my family like crazy it has been an amazing experience. In a way it really was fitting to move away right near 4th of July. It really marked the Independence of husband and I and starting our own family.

I'm not sure what our plans are for tomorrow besides husband having to work :( At least he get off early. I would be fine not doing much... All my little heart desires are a few sparklers :)
Have fun!!! Happy 4th of July!!!!

Coming along nicely

So here is a new picture of our built ins and the arch that leads to our bedroom. Things are not quite done yet but it's starting to feel like home. Cozy and full of love.
Our friends gave us this tv ( thank you Ben & Ricki) so we decided to build a entertainment center to block the entry.( We have a second door on the side.) the result I think ended up nicely. We still need matching curtains but husband says I need to be patient. I'm trying my best to be.

P.s. Yes that is the intro to Big Love. I've been obsessed as of late.
Goodnight

Starting to feel like one

Today was our friend Whitney's birthday party as I was writting our her card I didn't even have to think twice about making the card out from both husband and myself. I know that sounds silly but it meant a lot to me to know that after a year of marrige I am finally feeling completly comfortable in my roll as a wife. We are a party of two and I'm loving it!!

Flowers!!!

I was taking a walk during my lunch today and I noticed the adorable flower set up in Pioneer Square. They had little white chairs for people to sit on this faux garden. I love the fact that flowers can brighten up your day.
Life is still a hectic mess. Trying to unpack and get back to normal life not having to rummage through boxes to find my shoes. The cable/internet guy will be here Thursday. Thank goodness life will soon be normal again.

Moving, moving,moving

We are in the process of moving right now, but not before giving our place a little character. What do you think? We are super excited although I have to admit that I am getting a bit nostalgic about having to leave the first apartment we lived in together. It was such a sweet place but I think it was time to spread our wings a little. More pics coming soon.

Hey I can do this from my phone

I found an app that let's me blog from my phone. Maybe this way I won't be such a bad blogger.
Tonight husband and I went on a little ice cream adventure that took us all over the city :) no real reason why simply because we were having way too much fun just driving around. I truely think that it's a sign of true friendship and love. When the most simple tasks become so fun!!! I love husband for that it it makes me happy to think he will be such a fun dad ( super stern but fun) Not much else to report finally feeling inspired again so maybe I'll be posting some new art soon.

anniversary part II

I wanted to show off the beautiful flowers that husband gave me on our anniversary.

I couldn't stop smelling them. :DSince the first year anniversary gift is paper and one of our goals in life it to travel I have been collecting postcard for the last few months and strung together along with paper planes (we seem to love them) and hung them around the apartment. Just a nice reminder that we will be able to see the world together one day.
Husband also suggested we each get a subscription to a magazine as our gift.I chose Pinky a Japanese fashion magazine. FYI I have a HUGE obsession with all things Japanese and the girls in these magazines are adorable and make anything look so cute and stylish

P.s. I got a hair cut it's amazing how good you feel after one.

"I DO"... I mean WE DID one year ago to be exact

That's right one year ago exactly we were getting married in some very unexpected crazy So Cal spring  weather it ended up being like 100+  degrees that day. HA!!! But it was all worth it.

For our anniversary we decided to go to Marrakesh a Moroccan restaurant where the food is delicious and you get to eat with your hand... I felt like I was being such a rebel... my mom I'm sure would not like that idea all her dinner table rules were gone and it felt great!

It really was so romantic. I love this man so much and feel very blessed to be able to grow old with him *sigh* Well here we are one year later and loving it!!!!!!

I took this last picture while I was waiting for husband to get the car. After some really great weather there was a sudden down poor tonight and husband didn't want me to get soaked. What a gentleman.:)

Our first REAL hiking trip

Last week husband and I finally went on a real hiking trip. It was Dog Mountain which in on the Washington side of the Gorge. It was quite a workout and a whole lot more intense than we anticipated. (remember we are new at this) after what seems like forever going uphill we finally reached the summit only to reveal the most beautiful scenery that I have ever seen. All the pain seemed worth it to be able to have lunch on top of the world. Incredible.

Wow who knew I would ever be into hiking or anything that possibly involved me having to get my hair a bit out of place. HA More pics soon
