sunshine

We've had some gloomy weather these past few weeks, so when we caught sight of some sunlight we instantly packed everyone in the car and headed out. We had no agenda besides spending time outside with one another.
The older two quickly  started running around exploring and for the first time I noticed the eagerness in Hawk's face to do  the same. I am not sure if it's because he's so little in size or because he's the baby but I am more tentative to put him down and let him explore. My fear quickly subsides and joy filled my heart at seeing him pick up sticks and mimic his brothers and toss tiny rocks into the water. His smile and giggles said it all he loved every second of it. I was so glad I was able to set aside my apprehension and take in this great moment.

Apples and Pumpkins

These photos were taken in two separate outings with my MIL and the boys. They both embody autumn so well. The first trip was to a local 'you-pick' apple orchard. Most of the trees had perfect toddler friendly branches that the boys could easily pick apples off of.  The apples were delicious and we were even able to check out some turkeys they had on the farm. The second was to a pumpkin patch that my inlaws found nestled  along a quiet road. We had the patch all to ourselves which was wonderful but we also discovered first hand how prickly pumpkin vines are (ouch!) Like 90% of our outing the boys had a wonderful time both filling their bellies with apples while picking them and also being able to pick out the biggest pumpkin they could carry. And of course because grandparents are involved we left with a few huge pumpkins as well.

Fishing

First off sorry for the photo overkill on this post but there were just too many I loved.

A few nights ago we decided to go fishing. We quickly packed up and headed out. Bear and Wolf were eager to catch some fish. Wolf not surprisingly (based on age) lost interest quickly, Bear lasted a little longer and husband was patient and kind when he kept asking to reel in and see if they caught something. After a few unsuccessful times he walked away. While husband continued fishing the boys and I took a walk around the area.  The light was golden and they boys were in the best of moods and papa got some time alone to do exactly what he wanted and even managed to catch a few fish in the process.

If the rest of fall will be anything like the first day of it I am welcoming it open arms.

summer

Summer has been full of adventures in the woods, evenings swimming with the grandparents, birthday gifts being made by tiny hands and play dates with a lot of friends. The days are getting shorter and night breezes require a blanket to sleep with. Our summer fun is coming to an end and our homeschooling days will start tomorrow. As much as I love summer fun I have mentioned in the past that I am a person of routine. I am looking forward to falls crisp air, school routine and slower days.

birthday boy

WOW! Has it really been over a month since I last posted something here. As summer is coming to an end so I am hoping to keep up on the ol' blog a bit more.
We celebrated this sweet boys third birthday at the end of last month. Zoo, cake and dinosaurs were all in order for him. My dear little Wolf. He is a character. Full of whimsy, slightly hot tempered and wears his heart on his sleeve. I am excited to see what this year has in store for us with him. He already seems so much more grown up in the few short weeks as a three year old.

Beach Days

Back when I lived in California I lived about an hour away from the beach. I wasn't much of a beach goer and being that I NEVER thought I was moving out of California it was always nice to know that I always had the option just in case. After a year of living in a non coastal state and the Oregon Coast although beautiful just doesn't scream summer (it was always freezing when we went) it was time to take the boys to a real beach. The kind you don't have to wear a sweater or beanie to play in.

The whole family including my parents spent a morning at Bolsa Chica. Bear was instantly drawn to the water. Wolf had one big wave hit him a little to high for his liking and that was enough for him. He spent the rest of the time playing in the sand and looking for shells all while Baby Hawk sat with my mom on a blanket and dug his toes on the sand.

I don't think I will ever be a true beach bum even if we moved to a coastal state again but I was far more appreciative of our time spent there and hope to have the opportunity to go back again and make more memories. It was great to see the boys spent time with my parents, playing and being silly. Thank you mom and papa for taking such good care of us on our trip. I already can't wait to go back.
