Bad Blogger

Sorry folks I've been pretty horrible at this lately. I've been just so consumed with finishing my dress and reading non stop. I had my first visit to Powell's Books. ( I know I've lived here 7 months and I'm just now going. I'm so ashamed) Well needless to say if you've already been there it is AMAZING. You can just get so consumed there. I just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns It was sooooooo good. A must read tear jerker. The characters really came to life.

Well I'll have pictures of the finished dress tommorow . More soon.

The yummiest food

Tonight we went out with our great friends Kevin and Whitney to the best little hole in the wall restaurant in Downtown Portland. It's been all the rage between my co-workers and I figured I needed to spread the yumminess. So we hopped on over to A.J. at the Rail. It's seriously the best food for a great price. Husband had a burger that he claimed was the best he'd had since his grandpas homemade ones. They even have what we decided was the best food idea ever TOTCHOS.... that's right tater tot nachos. HA! If your in the area you should try it.

Rearranging Part II

Here are some more pictures of our apartment makeover. The table on top is our newest purchase once we moved stuff around we were actually able to have a bigger living room area so we decided that it would be nice to get a table that we can read and have meals for just the two of us on while enjoying the view.
We moved the bookshelf and husbands deck to the corner next to it.
Then moved our bed and our dresser/entertainment area next to that. It's great now we can watch movies from his computer from or bed.
We didn't do much with the kitchen just push the dinner table to the corner so that we can have more walking space. We'll just pull it out when we have guest over.
And lastly my work space again the final product. All and all I think I am loving this our apartments face lift. I don't ever want to leave :)

New Space, New Ideas

We rearranged our apartment today. Some of it is still in the process but I was excited to set up my craft area.  We live in a studio that has a walk in closet with no doors so we are able to make it work for us a tiny room.  We were using it as a closet/bedroom but we decided it was time for a change I got luck and not only do I have the whole space for my clothes. (sorry husband I love dresses)  but now it is also my work space.  It's coming together so well.  Above is my paint station.

This is one corner of my desk.  Both pieces of work are done by me. I'm a big John Lennon fan fyi We share the same birthday... My dad loves that :) I'm also a really big fan of Jesus and obsessed  with Catholic candles they just remind me of my mom.

These pretty things are hung right above that corner of my desk.  Print from The Black Apple, character drawing of husband and I by me.  The owl is a little gangster with his "g" bling that my friend Brian made me because I love really blingy ghetto jewelry.  (the more shiny and the bigger the better right?)
This is the final look. Still some odds and ends to clean up. I feel so inspired with this new work space.

A little bit of my history

I haven't been to Guatemala in almost 8 years and I am missing it so much. I use to spend my summers there as a little girl I have so much family that I would never know half of them and I it always felt like a giant party.  I remember watching these amazing women weaving fabrics on these big looms I loved it.  Well last night I found a little of my past tucked away in the back of  my fabric drawer.
I found this fabric that my mom bought me a few years back when she went to visit.  I've been so scared to use it because it's just too pretty to take scissors to and possibly ruin it.  I really think I would cry. But last night I felt confident I finally decided to make a simple little a line dress using a stretch cotton for the top and this lovely fabric as the bottom. I was super careful and only managed to mess up once. Luckily something easy to fix.  I'll have pictures the finished product soon I just need some elastic for the waist band and I'll be done. I am so proud of myself and it makes me really happy that every time I wear it, it'll remind me of my family and a little bit of my history and traditions.
No one said that creativity was orderly. It looks like crafts and projects just through up on my desk. I usually can't have it look like this for too long. I think I'll clean it tomorrow.

Thank you for being my best friend

After the last very negative post about my current attitude towards everyone.  I have completely gone full circle to a complete ball of mushy love.  I know I haven't gotten my act together as far as posting all my great vintage find ( I promise they exists and they are real good) But I just have to write a little something about how great this man is to me and how much I really love him.  I feel so blessed that he is in my life and I get to share so much with him.  Sometimes we think that being grown ups shouldn't be this much fun or you should be able to laugh this much together, but we do.  So enough with the sappy but "husband I love you" P.s. I will beat you at a game once in my life I promise that!!! :)

what is wrong with everyone?????

So today is just on of those that I should have just stayed home. For my sake and for anyone that has to be within 100 ft. of me. LOL I don't know if it's me giving off a vibe but people are just so weird and rude. WHERE IS EVERYONES COMMON SENSE!!!!????

Maybe I'm just angry because I'm stuck indoor on this beautiful sunny day and well... honestly slightly (p.m.s.ing) Okay I fessed up. I can't wait to be off tomorrow and maybe a picnic at the park with husband. At least I still like him.

one more thing for today

I promise I was getting back to work I just stumbled my this adorable catalog card maker as I was reading one of my favorite blogs.  If you want your own just go here. (it's free)

Okay, okay back to work I'll leave you with this picture of our road trip to Portland from SoCal.  That's all our stuff in the back seat I still don't think you can grasp how jammed packed our car was. HA

Still in the works

So after I very busy day getting myself organized I was only able to photograph these little guys tonight.  (Where does the time go?)  Well at least you get a little sneak peek of what's in store.

This book was re published in 1966 but the actual book as made in the 1950's which explains the adorable nostalgic illustrations it even has one of my favorite stories in it. Peter Rabbit.  Oh so cute!!! <3

And this cutie is a 1970's sewing books. I don't think it gets better than that.  The book itself is very informative and really can  help you learn, but it's okay to just like it for the pictures.

These things are not quite up yet but just wanted to give you some idea of things you might find in the shop.

Adios

I know I've said this before but...

I love my family so much.  They are so supportive.  I told them of my recent little business ideas and they were all so excited for me.  It feels so great to know that I have such an amazing family that will always be there for me and truly believe in me.  (even when I want to second guess myself)

Well I'm off tomorrow and I have a big To-Do list. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of the vintage treasures I will be listing soon. They are so cute, I can't wait to share more!!!!

New paintings on etsy

I'm on a role with the posting and with the new shops. I've had a lonely little etsy shop for quite a while and I just finished the mom and daughter painting and got really excited to update the shop with a couple of my original pieces. To get more info just go here.

P.S. sorry for the bad lighting on these pictures I promise the colors of these paintings are a lot more vibrant.

My very own little vintage shop

I have loved vintage clothes and this style icon for much too long to not share my vintage finds with the world. Husband has finally convinced me to try my hand at the online vintage shopping market. So cute and peculiar just got a little more exciting I will be posting some of my finds soon and a link on where to get them. I've already got a few really great items to sell and so much more to come. Aside from having to hunt down great vintage pieces for others, I am also going to me making some reconstructed pieces from thing with great potential that just need a little help making the cut. I am so excited!!!!! Pictures of items coming soon.

Year of Fitness

Have I mentioned that this is the year of fitness. I know that everyone makes all these crazy resolutions at the beginning of the year but husband and I have been trying to eat better and exercise a little at home. Nothing too crazy we don't want to over do it or anything. We made flash card of exercises that we can do at home everyday. One of them even included a boxing match on the wii. (We have to have fun) So far we've been sticking to it.

Well.... sort of we did go here

and here today

Opps. Well this year of fitness is hard work sometimes you just have to treat yourself....Right? Well I've done my crunches, my walk this morning and some push ups I think I'll call it a day. I'll try to not stay up until 4 today. I think I might just paint for a little then bed time. Good night.

Chasing the sunshine

Okay, okay so maybe I stayed up until 4 am reading about really bad celebrity gossip. That's so embarrassing to admit I promise I'm not normally like that I just got sucked in last night.

Well falling asleep so late didn't stop me this morning from noticing that the beautiful sunshine had payed us a visit. I bundled up and went out to soak it up. It was so needed. This is my first winter here in Portland and when people say it's gloomy they are not joking. Coming from SoCal is a really big change and anytime I get to spend out in the sun I'm gonna take. Even if I've only had just a few hours of sleep.

I also fell in love with my neighbor hood all over again. I had forgotten how pretty it is and how nice it is to walk around here. Thank you Sunshine!!!!!!!

ikea date and an evening of music

After a great day off with husband going to Ikea for some unsuccessfully shopping. Honestly we were not really in the market for anything I think we both were secretly craving Swedish meatballs. HA
We settled back home and have been listening to music all night while I've been drawing.

Do you ever have those music moments when everything sounds great to listen to.  I went from Wu Tang and Dr. Dre to the B 52's and Blondie then to Selena. No joke all within one evening . LOL. Sometimes my taste of music cracks me up.  Does anyone else have those type of contradictory moment.  Oh well it's always a lot of fun to like a little of everything.
